Every size of home let privately, together, so it reads lower where more of the homes let are small. Tenancies already running count as well as new ones. Figures for August 2026, published for 316 councils in England and Wales. Lowest first: the order says where a council sits, not whether that is good.

Lowest: Hartlepool, £558 a month. The council in the middle: Dover, £1,021 a month. Highest: Kensington and Chelsea, £3,690 a month.
